Nazi symbolism
Runic letters
Since 1933, the insignia of the Nazi SS, there are two "Sig runes".
The letters of the alphabet Runes have been used by Nazism and neo-Nazi groups that associate with Germanic traditions, mainly the Sigel rune, Eihwaz, Tyr (cf Odal (see Odalism) and Algiz.
The fascination that runes seem to have had on the Nazis can be traced to the occult and author vlkisch Guido von List, one of the major figures in the mystical Germanic runic revivalism in the late 19 and 20. In 1908, the list published in Das Geheimnis der Runen ("The Secret of the Runes") a set of 18 called "Runes Armanen" based on the Younger Futhark, which allegedly released him in a state of temporary blindness after surgery cataracts in both eyes in 1902.
In the Nazi context, the s-rune is known as "Sig" (after List, probably from Anglo-Saxon Sigel). The "Wolfsangel" while not a rune historically, has the form of Schedule "Gibor" rune.
The use of Nazi symbolism by neo-Nazi groups
Many symbols Nazis have been appropriated by neo-Nazi groups, including a number of runes, along with a variety of pseudo-swastika symbols like the wheel of the sun, suggesting symbols Nazis directly without using them. Neo-Nazis also used various symbols such as numbers:
18, Adolf Hitler code. The number comes from the position of the letters in the alphabet: A = 1, H = 8.
88, code for Heil Hitler. Again, the number comes from the position of the letter H in the Latin alphabet.
14, fourteen of the words coined by David Lane: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.
14 and 88 are sometimes combined each other (ie, 14/88, 8814, 1488).
